Coastal Community on "Two Questions: Security and Import/Export"

A couple of quick questions:

1. Just signing up to test the beta program for our organization, and before we get started, I'd like to have some additional detail on the security of the site. I understand the privacy and permission settings, and I am referring to the security that protects files we upload and communications stored on the site.

I understand there is a difference between the security on the beta (unpaid) plan and the paid plans - but don't really know what the details are for each and how our information is protected. Could someone provide more information or point me to some details on this?

2. Is there functionality built-in to Pelotonics that will allow me to quickly export a project (saving the files/comments/lists/timetracking etc) to my network once it has been completed? Archiving still takes up project space, so I'd like to remove the project after completion from the site altogether (in a painless manner).

Similarly, can we import past projects again?

Thanks for your help!
Heather

Troy,

I talked with you about this on the phone but wanted to make it officially in the forums to post about it.

Just want to request that a "note-type" section be added so we can add details to the template notes.

For anyone else wondering what I'm talking about, here's a prime example:
-----
Say you're starting a project that requires you to build a Windows XP workstation.

You would be able to include a template that provides instructions from A-Z, but you might want to include some details. Like...what users to add to the system and what passwords to use; (you wouldn't want to line item each thing into a new task but since you can't add notes you don't really have a choice) or even how to configure the Proxy that Internet Explorer is supposed to use, etc., etc.

The template is a great way to get started but it's not going to be able to hold enough actual information outside of a general description. I like the Template idea, but I need to be able to add more details to the templated items.

Should I be able to drag a task from one to-do list to another with a Mac browser?

I can rearrange items within a list (though it's a bit sluggish), but if I try to drag a task from one list to another, I see a blue line randomly jumping around between items (often nowhere near where my cursor is) and then nothing happens when I drop the task.

Same issue in both Safari 3.1.2 and Firefox 3.0.3

Is there anyone who would be interested in more reminders, aside from myself? :P

I'd love to have daily emails (or some equivalent) sent out for tasks instead of just having a single reminder date.

There are times when it would be nice to have a daily reminder sent out at a specified time or interval that reminds someone that they've got something urgent that needs to get resolved.

Emails get buried (as some of us can relate to) and if someone isn't staring at their dashboard all the time, a more constant reminder sent off and received on (say) a BlackBerry would be beneficial in our organization.

The request would be to expand the available options for reminder dates into something more frequent. Maybe even check boxes or something for 8 am, noon and 4 pm before the workday ends. Something like that anyway - I'm just throwing it out there :D

1. We redesigned the Banners throughout the site. (orange, gray, dark gray, red, etc...)
2. There was a minor UI bug not hiding the Upload button on the file upload modal.
3. The Request Update link on a task was showing up for Tasks assigned to "Everyone", it is now not showing in that situation.
4. There were issues importing a vCard (different programs create the vCards differently). Outlook, Yahoo, GMail, Address Book, and many others supported now.

Not sure if this is a feature yet, I don't see it in the docs.

It's a HUGE part of my work flow to bring up a text file in Huddle and view it then grab it and paste it into dreamweaver or Joomla. When working at a fast pace, there's little time for downloading, opening, etc.

Any chance this is in the works?

So far this and no Pic preview makes it not ready for my production environment. Unfortunately, I'm trying it out with a new client and it's proving to be a pain.

(I'm used to Huddle and Basecamp, but I'm willing to consider switching.)

I assume new members are Contacts?

If so, how do I invite a client into the project workspace? Do I have to do that manually, i.e. create a contact, then copy their info and email it to them. I hope it's more direct than that. Doing that for 6-8 people would be a waste of good time. Docs aren't that great.

I must say this could be more intuitive.

I've been using Basecamp for a few months, and overall it seems to suit our needs better than most of the alternatives I've seen.

I do like the fact that you seem to be more receptive to changes, so I am definitely open considering a switch.

My single biggest annoyance with Basecamp is something that unfortunately you copy as well. I really have a problem with sending passwords via email. What's the point of using SSL for access when the password is mailed to the user? Yes, I know you provide instructions on how to change it, but that assumes the user will do so. What if they don't?

To overcome this, all you need to do is send an initial password that MUST be changed, or even just send a one-time URL that brings them to a password set prompt.

Once you go that far, it would be nice to be able to see from an admin screen if they've set their password. If they don't get to it for a while, I may want to nag them or suspend the account to avoid someone else taking advantage of an open window.

Thanks.

2. When viewing an Appointment on the Pelotonics System, there is a new link in the sub-navigation that says "Add to Calendar" which is a downloadable iCalendar file (.ics file).

I also get a false error if a task is assigned a due date of Dec 08 in a To-Do List of a milestone with a 2009 due date. Seems like a 2009/2008 problem? Hard to set up a project this time of year with this problem...

As we cleaned up some of the due date and reminder dates error handling, we figured that we should finish up the job.

1.) We added the Due date to the Milestone Drop-Down List when associating a To-Do List to a Milestone.
2.) We fixed the error handling in the new appointment and new to-do list modals
3.) If you had a ampersand '&' in your company or project names, we had some minor URL encoding issues. Those are fixed now.
4.) In IE7 the body of the Summary page was pulling a disappearing act sometimes when you would mouse over the Quick Links or the Time tracking Link. That is fixed now.

Hi Everyone,

I am experiencing a weird issue in IE7 on my machine, and I wanted to share this with everyone and see if you are having the same issue as well. I'm 99% sure that the issue is only on my machine due to a program I have installed called Multiple_IE which allows you to have multiple versions of IE on your computer.

Please watch this PeloCast and let me know!

Thank you,
Daniel

By way of update, there was an obscure bug in IE that we just fixed. When on the Summary page of any project, if you rolled over the "Quick Link" links at the top of the page, it would make the content in the inner frame disappear! There was a CSS issue that we have remedied and will launch tonight!

Thanks for all your comments!

This is more specific to Projects than anything, but wanted to post it for clarification if nothing else.

I see the pricing lists here:
http://www.pelotonics.com/signup_new.aspx

And they look fine and dandy - but I'm curious on the number of projects. We could easily do the Unlimited plan because we go through projects (a lot) on a month to month basis.

The question specifically is "Is the fee based on total number of ALL projects or total number of ACTIVE projects?"

To explain further - there's something to be said about having X projects on your server and only using X at a time. Now, from your perspective you could simply say "Brian - it's only right to charge a higher fee based on your total amount of projects that you've ever opened" and I'd have to say that I can certainly understand.

I was looking at it going, "Is this number based on ACTIVE projects that all the team members are working on or not?"

What do I mean? Say you have a lot of small projects that span a week. Well if I did that every single week but didn't do a ton of things with details or file uploads, I'd still find myself buying an unlimited plan because (for instance) if I did 20 projects per month, it wouldn't take me long to work my way up to the unlimited membership requirement because "somewhere along the line, I've made over a hundred projects on a 6 month period".

I guess I'm trying to find the fine print, if you will. Is it based on total online projects sitting on your server? And what if I delete the projects or something? Is that even an option? Is it that you can only have the specified amount open at one time and then if you were to open more it would not be allowed until you purchased a higher plan or if you closed some of the projects, etc.?

Hi everyone & Pelotonics crew -

Thanks for the great work so far.

I'll be responsible for managing projects and in order to get some of the other team members motivated enough to check the progress by logging on to Pelotonics (rather than just asking, repeatedly...) there are a some fundamental things I'd like to see.

In order to at least try to keep on-topic within a thread ;) I'll stick to the Dashboard for now.

First, and this is really a global thing, it would be nice to let a user put the calendar at the bottom.

Functionally, though, my request here is that columns could be added and labeled; for example, "Assigned To" should be a column head and the date (I believe this is the date on which an entry was created) should be labeled as such. Also, there should be a due date column.

The ability to sort columns by would be very helpful, too.

Last, besides the standard breakdown of items listed by project, the option to combine all open items into a single listing so that -all- tasks can be sorted by due dates. Around here it's routine to have items filtering in with consecutive (or simultaneous) due dates from many different projects!

Thanks,
Andrew
