We just discussed this and we love your insight. When you click on a task, one of the options will be to track time on that task specifically. When you do this, the modal will come up with the Task content pre-populated in the "notes" field. This way you can track task-specific time as well as general time for whatever actions you specify.

Now your clients will get the details AND you will have the ability to track time on something that comes up in your day that was not planned, but none the less took up some time.

I think that this one will win the Feature Request Award for January...and it's only the 5th!

You will see this live in the matter of a few days.

Please send me your information to: tmalone@pelotonics.com I would like to send you out a Pelotonics shirt. I will need your address as well as your full name and a little about your business. We will highlight you on the blog.

Thanks for the input! Thoughts like this only help us improve and build the best application out there...

Talk to you soon.

It seems that time is only tracked at the Pelotonics' project level.

For some of my clients I have to track time against (Pelotonics') To-Do List or Task levels.

Is this in the future plans anywhere?

If we were creating and tracking "real" project plans each task would need to be broken down into its subcomponents where each subcomponent only had one participant.

But we're not. I'm happy (for now??) with the To-Do List being the major task and the tasks being the sub tasks.

However, that means that some subtasks while having a single person responsible for the task have a team of people participating in its execution.

It would be great to be able to identify a (single) responsible party and a number of participants associated with a task.

Thanks

Hi John,

Thanks for the input. I will get that on the list for us to talk about. We are also thinking about providing tagging functionality on the task list so that you could filter by that as well. This would give you GTD functionality if you were so inclined.

It would be great to be able to link tasks together (i.e., B is dependent on A) and then to be able to sort the task list by dependency.

Hi, Troy,

Many thanks for a speedy reply. A list view for messages would be great.

I suppose one could create a new folder for each message and use the folders as tags, clicking on each folder listed to bring up the message. But that would result in a very long list of folders and one would have to create a new folder with every message. Messy.

So anything that you can brainstorm to help make life easier would be wonderful. Thanks for listening!

Hi Dan! Thanks for your thoughtful comments. We love to hear about how people are using the system. It is funny that you mention this. We did have a list view for the messages page at one time. I remember taking that off a number of months ago. What you are saying does make sense; especially how you are using the system.

I will discuss this with our CTO tomorrow and brainstorm about what we may be able to do here.

Thanks again for your comments. Please contact us at any time!

Hi, everyone,

I'm just getting into Pelotonics and am using the site for a couple of projects.

When a message is on the dashboard, it's just wonderful that I can hover the mouse over the subject line and see the contents. Brilliant!

But within a project, on the message tab, there doesn't seem to be a way to collapse the body content of messages so just the subject line shows. That would be a great feature!

In one project I collect press releases and other author information for the books I review. At any given time there may be 10 or 20 messages, sometimes LONG ones, and it's impossible to find the particular message on the page except by scrolling down and reading each subject line. I suppose I could do a search, but that seems cumbersome.

So--any possibility of collapsible messages? Best would be the ability to collapse and open individual messages on the page, but to make it easier (maybe?) a link to a page just listing the subject lines would be fine. I could click on the subject and go to the message I needed.

Thanks for a great product. What got me interested were (a) free file storage (something the competition doesn't seem to offer) and (b) integration with Evernote (which is fast becoming my main brain).

Yeah, something that allows room for going back aways is something I'd just love to see.

Right now, we'll have times where (Outlook makes a nice example) someone deletes an appointment but no one knows who did it. Seeing as we all have Editor access to each others calendars it makes it a bit hard to track things down.

So with Pelo, it would be good to see who might be doing something similar when no one wants to take responsibility for something they deleted without letting the rest of the team know.

On the other note (for Daniel) I need to know what I'm doing wrong then. Can you access my global calendar and see the daily appointment I threw in there? It should be reminding everyone at 9:45 am via email and it's simply not. So anything I put in there that should be re-occurring and reminding the team, and it simply isn't.

Thanks guys!

Hi Brian,

Good points on the logging, but I think we have something that with some tweaking can work. Essentially our summary page's "Latest Activity" could serve this purpose if it was a bit more detailed and accounted for EVERYTHING. Then you could look and see that "John Smith deleted" an appointment for instance. Right now we don't track for every transaction, but we could allow for tracking of more changes to the system to give you a better view of who did what for logging purposes. We might just need to allow for a view that goes back further...

What do you think?

So any news on when this will be turned back on? I want to add more and more stuff to the calendar but not having daily reminders makes them totally useless because people don't always look at the calendar. I'd say the majority of people don't want to for whatever reason.

On the original note, I'd still love some type of feature that allows you to download a log of what has taken place and who has done it.

Seeing as we have multiple admins who will be making changes, no one will have to fess up in the event that something in the global calendar gets deleted which will be an issue...

I'd just love to see some kind of plain text file that could be zipped from your server and downloaded at any time I feel like downloading it. Then you guys could recycle them at your leisure, making sure to delete them so they don't get too huge.

I still feel there needs to be some type of auditing that takes place so that people know who has deleted, changed something without prior knowledge.

Dan,

We have recently switched the Timezone data to the user rather than the company. So for every user we're storing where they are in the world. Though we haven't yet implemented the use of that data (like appointment reminders and time). We currently are spec'ing that out, and hope to have it in the development cycle very soon.

OK I've used a few different hosted solutions for project collaboration, and the biggest drawback common to any web app seems to be the load time for pages.

Pelotonics is great in that it doesn't seem to have a time-out, something that is brutally annoying if you're in the habit of writing, then get stuck on something, to come back and see that you've timed out and lost all content thus far created.

I realize that this is no trivial thing to contemplate, however one of the awesome usability features of Evernote is the desktop app that resides as an icon at startup, and remains a constant open window whilst I'm logged onto my PC (<Disclaimer> I've only been using Evernote for 3 days since finding Pelotonics, but it's already become indispensable to my workflow</Disclaimer>)

A dedicated window to an essential project collaboration tool, open for dedicated use, that syncs periodically with the service as opposed to window refreshes each <enter>, would enable faster processing for 'power users' and be a good jump in front of the current market offerings - or at least, last I used the others the feature was not offered.

I realize that this may be a long way away, it's just a thought :)

PS - the new Google released Native Client Platform which aims to enable browsers to access compiled code as opposed to scripting languages, is some pretty exciting stuff, yeah? Or is that just me...? :)

Peace

bbinder,

You are going to like this. Daniel just made an adjustment that I think you will like. The adjustment was based on your Feature Request. I would like to highlight this as our December winner for the best Feature Request. (I have been thinking the same thing you were!)

Can you send me a picture of yourself for the Blog posting? You can send it to: tmalone@pelotonics.com.

This feature, along with many others that we will outline, are going to go live tomorrow.

Thanks!

Yeah, the project level settings that allow you to add a summary page to an already-existing project.

For me, that's a nice thing to have when you are simply putting in a project to get started on things but want to add a summary of what it will entail right away. Then you aren't having to navigate away from them and select them one by one from a drop-down box in order to add a summation to each one.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Are you talking about the Project Settings? If so, I agree that we should be looking for another way of making it more convenient.

Talking with Daniel about it now...we can definitely make it easier to get to the project settings. Having a permanent link on the Summary page to the project settings would be a great middle ground.

Daniel says that he could do that rather easily. This may be the December feature request of the month!

Thanks.

How about making the project summary available when actually creating the project? It's silly to make a project, then have to go into the admin tab, then select the project settings for specific projects, knowing it could be done when the project was actually created.

A quick link to edit the summary directly from the projects tab would be very useful instead of going through unnecessary steps in the admin tab in my opinion.
